The AD tests a dog's endurance, conditioning and physical structure.  This test must be passed as part of the 'Breed Survey' or Korung which is the official title for dogs of breeding quality. This includes certification the dog is free of hip dysplasia, has been awarded an official rating of V (excellent) or SG (very good) in conformation competition, holds a Schutzhund title and has passed a temperament and courage test.
During the test the dog must trot next to the handler, who is riding a bicycle for a total of 20 km (12.5 miles) at a pace of 12 - 15 km/ hour (7.7 - 9.5 mph). There are 2 - 15 minute breaks when the judge evaluates each dog for tender or worn foot pads, overall fatigue or poor condition.  The end of the test concludes with a short obedience routine.  The training and conditioning for this test begins 6-8 weeks prior to the trial.

Translates to "Companion Dog." The judge evaluates whether a handler/dog team have passed a 2 part test of obedience and temperament.  This test is required to continue in the IPO or VPG sport. Part A must be passed for the team to do Part B. 

Part A - 2 dog/handler pairs enter the field, introduce themselves and their dogs formally to the judge. One is told to go to the long down position. The other performs the following exercises:

Heeling: Complex pattern on leash and off, includes heeling through a group of 4 people, an about turn, a left and right turn and a sit.  The motion exercises follow the heeling pattern.

Sit in Motion: While heeling, the handler instructs the dog to sit. The handler does not interrupt his pace while the dog sits promptly. After 30 paces, the handler stops to face the dog. At the judge's direction, the hander returns to the dog and resumes the heeling exercise below.

Down With Recall :While heeling, the handler instructs the dog to down. The dog lays down promptly while the handler continues for another 30 paces, whereupon the handler turns to face the dog. At the judge's direction, the handler recalls the dog, who should come quickly and sit close in front. When told to heel, the dog returns to the handler's left side.

 

Long Down with Distraction: The handler commands the dog to lay down on the side of the field chosen by the judge. The handler moves 40 paces away with his back to the dog. The dog must remain in the down position while another dog performs the above exercise routine.

Part B : Only dogs that pass Part A may take this part of the test. Evaluates the dog's ability to function in traffic. The judge evaluates the dog's performance & stability.

Behavior of the Dog Left Alone During Traffic Conditions: Finally, the handler and dog proceed to a relatively low traveled road. The handler secures the dog to a suitable tie off and moves out of sight of the dog, remaining out of sight for approximately two minutes. Another handler and (non aggressive) dog will pass within five paces of the secured dog which must remain calm during this exercise.
